I heart ribbon

I love pretty ribbon.
Above is one of several boxes I have of ribbon I've collected.
When it comes to fabric, buttons and ribbon I am a little nuts!

I'm working on my first quilt. It's going to be a crib quilt for my niece Emma. I already went to the fabric store and picked out the fabric story. It will be pinks, browns, greens, white, triangles, flowers, patterns, polka dots...I can't wait!

Also something that made my day today was finding out there is going to be a Joann's Super store close to me now...EXCITED <3

Happy Monday!

I love Sundays

Valentine's Day cards...

I can post a picture now...since they were sent and received already. Some scrap fabric, blank cards and my sewing machine :)

I also received new labels! I used the same design cause I loved it.

Today was also such a nice day that I ventured to the backyard and took pictures of some pretty flowers. I want spring to come quick!

I hope there's more days like today this week, I want to take my dog Kosmo on a walk he's been cooped up cause of the rain and cold...I guess it would do me some good too :)

I still haven't seen the movie

So I was browsing around and found this great blog called Toy-a-day. The guy who writes the blog created a basic template and will create a new toy every day for a year. He offers the basic template as a free PDF file as well as almost all of his toy creations. He's done some really amazing cute characters. Besides these two one of my other favorites was the grumpy old man from UP.

I haven't seen the movie Where the Wild Things Are but it is one of my favorite childhood books. I made these to put in my niece's room I think they are an easy fun and cute project to do with kids AND adults :)

I heart thrifting

I love treasure hunting! That's what I call thrifting, cause really it's sort of a treasure hunt. Here is my found treasure.

found a stash of 21 vintage zippers...I think I pretty much hit the jackpot with these.

I also love embroidered linens...these are so pretty.

I think this is one of the best finds lately, it has a lot of good information. I have The Complete Guide to Needlework already and I can say even though these books were printed in the 1980's the information is so useful.

Buttons who doesn't love buttons!

aaand this is not a thrift find, I made it and I'm thinking I like it so much I might make these Christmas presents.

Ok off to do some more work cutting and prepping before the procrastination bug hits me!

fabric run

So this weekend I had to go to the fabric store (surprise surprise I'm really always looking for excuses to go...) and got a bunch of quarters for the small stuff I'm making for Handborn. I'm in love with the following three fabrics!

Watermelon seeds

old school telephones

spools of thread (this may be my favorite)

So I've been quite busy lately just planning and getting things together for Handborn. I'm still thinking of the display I want it to be a little like last years. I will add a coat rack (I need to borrow or buy one) for the bags. I'm gonna start looking around on the internet, checking out what people use for displays when they show at a craft fair.

Oh! I finished a few bags but I think I'll save a show and tell until closer to the date :)

Next blog: Since I'm sort of getting into the spirit I'm gonna do a Halloween crafts post soon...maybe a collective of really cool ideas I've found on the net and some of my own. Can't wait!

slippers

I made these cute house slippers for my sister. I found an easy tutorial in an old magazine and wanted to try it out I used regular felt for the sole since I didn't have wool felt (which is what the tutorial said to use). I think it's such a good project for any of those bigger scraps or quarters you have lying around. I think I'll do a tutorial soon. It's an easy project you can finish in one afternoon. I love this because I'm kind of impatient and I always want to go ahead and finish my projects right away.

In other news I'm going to do Handborn again this year. Handborn is a craft/art fair downtown Modesto. It's in the evening and there's always bands and a fashion show and tons of very cool vendors. I'm happy to be a part of it and glad that I have more time to plan and prepare than last year.

iron-on vinyl

Ok so I was a little skeptical and actually a little afraid to use this type of vinyl. I gotta admit that projects like these where you have to iron-on stuff on other stuff is not really my cup of tea, BUT I tried it today. I bought this pretty fabric and I wanted to make a new makeup bag for myself with it. The problem was that the background is white and I knew it was going to get dirty fast. I had bought this iron-on vinyl a long long time ago that I never used, so I decided to just try it. I gotta say it was really easy and I did like the end result. I would definitely use this again for other projects like wallets, placemats, makeup bags, or lunch totes.

I think there's a few things I would do differently. I would put some interface on the lining before sewing it on and also I would use a different zipper, I used a vintage metal zipper and it just was really hard to cut and work with for this particular project.

Can't wait to throw my old ugly falling apart makeup bag and use this one!
