iron-on vinyl

Ok so I was a little skeptical and actually a little afraid to use this type of vinyl. I gotta admit that projects like these where you have to iron-on stuff on other stuff is not really my cup of tea, BUT I tried it today. I bought this pretty fabric and I wanted to make a new makeup bag for myself with it. The problem was that the background is white and I knew it was going to get dirty fast. I had bought this iron-on vinyl a long long time ago that I never used, so I decided to just try it. I gotta say it was really easy and I did like the end result. I would definitely use this again for other projects like wallets, placemats, makeup bags, or lunch totes.

I think there's a few things I would do differently. I would put some interface on the lining before sewing it on and also I would use a different zipper, I used a vintage metal zipper and it just was really hard to cut and work with for this particular project.

Can't wait to throw my old ugly falling apart makeup bag and use this one!

It's been a while...

I've been around...just not around blogger and that's just NOT right! haha So yeah I'm back on here. I think I'm gonna try posting 2 to 3 times a week.

Today I went to my favorite place ever. THE FABRIC STORE (or two). My default store to go to is Joann's because it's closer to where I live and they always have sales and great coupons (love those 40% percent off coupons!). They have a decent variety of prints and their prices are reasonable. I also like that they have a variety of linen fabric in different textures and colors...I LOVE linen. Now if we are gonna talk about variety and some amazing fabrics...I will take the trip out to the far side of town and go to Beverly's. They have an amazing variety AMAZING. I seriously would go broke if I went there as much as I go to Joann's. I ususally only go there when I can't find what I want at Joann's or when I have some money to burn :) They are pricier and have less sales and coupons than Joann's but their variety makes up for that. They also are one of the best craft stores because they carry pretty much everything you need for any craft.

When I got home today I took Kosmo my chihuahua out to the back yard and it hit me that our lime tree is HUGE and it has tons of limes. My dad planted that tree a few years ago, he brought it from Mexico. These limes are so yummy, and juicy. I cannot explain how much my family and I use lime in everything...specially on fresh fruit. I think I need some fresh cut watermelon with lime juice and a little bit of salt right about now.

I think my squinty eyed dog would agree.

Leo

This is Leo. It was a doggie that a friend at work commissioned me to make for her mom. It's the first bigger plush animal that I've done. I think it turned out really cute.
I think I'm going to make a couple more in different colors and textures.

Hope everyone has a great holiday!

Handborn

So Handborn was last night and it was a great success. Thanks to the ones that came by and supported me! At first I was a bit nervous but then as soon as the event started I relaxed and just had a good time. There was a ton a people and I was really happy that they liked my stuff.

I'm thinking of doing more shows and craft fairs. I have new ideas for future items and I've learned what sells and what doesn't and what to do different. I'm going to put whatever was left from the fair and put it at the shop. I have no listings yet but by the end of the weekend I should have a new batch of owls, bags, jewelry and a few new items. I'm excited.

Here's my table:

Can't wait to start designing some new items!

I love gifts!

Giving gifts that is...

Went to my friend Danielle's housewarming party so I made her this set of fabric coasters they match with how she decorated her new house.

Anyway I'm getting ready for Handborn...so I've been pretty busy...although I'm hoping to take some time off this weekend and visit Alba in Oakland, I need the break!

All settled in

So I am all moved in back to my parents. I drove a HUGE uhaul for the first time yesterday and let me tell you that was an interesting experience! Anyway now all I have to do is organize my room, get a desk, and a new bed frame.

In other news I finished this doll I made for my mini-me (my goddaughter) and since making dolls are not my specialty and this was for a gift that had to be done in about a week I used Emily's Black Apple Doll pattern from the Martha Stewart website HERE but I made the little bloomers and the dress from scratch I had to make my own pattern for it...yes it did take me almost a week to finish it but I think it turned out pretty good.

aren't her bloomers cute?

So last weekend I went to Joann's and I got some fabric I waited about an hour to get my fabric cut but it was worth it!

Oh and I made some earrings and a necklace...these are the kind of necklaces I will be selling at Handborn oh yeah I forgot to say it's been confirmed that I will be having a spot there at the end of this month. The necklaces and earrings are all made from vintage and new beads and sterling silver chain and findings.

Now I'm going to focus on making stuff for the craft bazaar and starting my first quilt!
